Greens/Crags Ranch

About the Ranch

Leon Green arrived in the Yampa Valley in 1895. He patented a homestead in 1910, calling it the Crags Ranch for the cliffs above the homestead. He passed his ranch on to his son William who passed it on to his son Leon in 1937. The Green family grew hay, potatoes, oat, wheat, and barley along with raising cattle. The past generations of the ranch are remembered as being kindhearted and hard working. Even without electricity, they kept a positive attitude and fresh homemade meals on the table. In 1980, Leon’s son Jerry and his wife Judy took over ranching operations. In 1995, the State of Colorado listed the Green ranch as a Centennial Farm and Ranch. Judy Green currently operates the ranch.
